Udupi, July 21: The Udupi District Badminton Association organised an All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton tournament 2014 on Sunday July 20 at the district indoor stadium, Ajjarkad.
The tournment was inaugurated by Abhayachandra Jain, minister for youth affairs and fisheries, government of Karnataka.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the government, NGO's and businessmen should go hand in hand, only then the state can function smoothly. He promised to give Rs 70 lac, for promoting sports in the district and added that he plans to have an international swimming pool in the district.
"There are many hubbubs seen in politics which is only due to the selfishness among politicians," he added.
Around 1300 children, aged between 13 and 15 gathered enthusiastically from various states for the tournment.
Raghupati Bhat ex MLA, Pramod Madhwaraj MLA Udupi, Yuvaraj CMC president, H S Ballal pro chancellor MIT Manipal, Prakash Kodavoor
and others were present.
Roshan Shetty, deputy director of Sports and Youth affairs of Udupi, compeered the programme.
