Mangalore, Jul 20: The areas in around Moodushedde have been flooded due to release of water from a nearby dam coupled with heavy rains that lashed the district on Saturday July 19.
It is said that the Phalguni river was already flowing above the danger mark due to rains over the past few days. Added to this, a nearby dam released water on Saturday evening without any warning, said the locals.
As a result, several fields were inundated in around the Moodushedde. Though no casualties or injuries were reported, the loss suffered due to damage to crops is said to be heavy.
Speaking to daijiworld, Ramanath Athar, a resident of Moodushedde said that crops like paddy, sugarcane and others had been completely damaged, and the fields submerged.
"It is is a major loss of us. We have lost all our crops. We will submit a memorandum to the DC urging action against the power company which released the dam water. They have to issue warning before releasing the water," he said.
"We have been living here since many years, but our fields were never inundated. The only reason for this is the release of water from the dam," he added.
