Panaji, July 20 (Hindu): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said he would write to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parikkar asking him to take measures to protect the interests of Kannada-speaking people in Goa who were recently evicted from their huts.
Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Siddaramaiah also promised that he would convey the concern voiced by the evictees’ relatives to Mr. Parikkar and request him to do the needful.
He said the poll code had come into effect in Shimoga, Bellary and Chikkodi-Sadalaga Assembly constituencies where the Election Commission had declared byelections. The former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who represented Shimoga, and Prakash Hukkeri, who represented Chikkodi-Sadalga, quit their Assembly membership following their election to the Lok Sabha. The Bellary seat became vacant in the wake of the former Minister B. Sriramulu quitting the seat to contest the Lok Sabha elections on BJP ticket.
Earlier, chairing a meeting on Dasara Festival 2014, he said four roads in Mysorewould be improved using concrete at a cost of Rs. 55 crore. He directed the Deputy Commissioner in-charge S. Palaiah to use concrete on Ashoka Road, Narayana Shastri Road, Sayyaji Rao Road and 100-ft Road too.
Mr. Siddaramaiah rejected the suggestion made by Mysore Police Commissioner M.A. Saleem to cancel the cultural programmes on the 9th day of the Dasara festival. Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee told the policeman it was their duty to make all arrangements.
