Chikmagalur, Jul 20 (DHNS): In the backdrop of rise in incidents of sexual assault cases on women, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Shobha Karandlaje has demanded the resignation of Home Minister K J George.
Addressing mediapersons on Saturday, she urged the chief minister and the home minister to consider the sexual assault cases seriously.
Their statements should not be limited to speeches.
The union home minister and women and child welfare minister have been briefed about the law and order in the state and the cases of assault on women and children in the State.
Special investigation squads should be formed for investigating rape cases. The private school in Bangalore where a six year-old child was sexually assaulted should be derecognised, she demanded.
The MP batted for the surgical castration of rapists.
There is a need to introduce a stringent law for punishing the accused in rape cases.
Speaking about the problem of coffee growers, Shobha Karandlaje said that the coffee problem has been discussed in the Parliament.
A meeting will be held with the prime minister and other ministers to discuss the issue.
Coffee growers delegation will arrive at Delhi soon and arrangements will be made for their meeting with the ministers concerned and demand will be placed before the ministers to solve the problems faced by the coffee growers.
“No researches have succeeded in finding a solution to check borer disease affecting coffee. The Coffee Board has to be activated.
The officers who are aware of coffee plantation should be appointed to the Coffee Board,” Shobha stressed.
On eviction of encroached land, she said that as per the Forest Act 2006, scheduled caste and tribe members are allowed to cultivate in encroached land up to 10 acre and this has to be made applicable to all encroachers.
