Mangalore, Aug 11:  The ban on employment of children in domestic and hotel sectors, imposed by the Union Ministry of Labour, has been well received by the Campaign Against Child Labour (CACL) and organizations and individuals nationwide, campaigning for eradication of child labour. The ban will be effective from October 10, 2006.

Under the ban, children below the age of 14 years cannot be employed in places such as hotels, tea shops, hostels, catering units, clubs and households. The children will thus get an opportunity to attain basic education. As they can be exploited easily and do not have the strength to resist, children are employed in these categories of work.

The CACL while hailing the Labour Ministry, has also demanded all measures so that the ban can be implemented properly, and also lend alternatives to the children already working in the sectors mentioned under the ban.

The CACL has also demanded prohibition of employment of children up to 18 years in different sectors.
