Bangalore, Jul 18: Archbishop Dr Bernard Moras has strongly condemned the sexual assault and rape of a minor girl, who was preparing to become a nun in the Holy Nativity Convent on Hennur Bande in Bangalore.
''I am greatly shocked and deeply pained know about the cowardly act of some miscreants, who had sexually assaulted a candidate who is preparing to become a nun in the Holy Nativity Convent, Hennur Bande, which is located within Bangalore City limits,” the Archbishop said in a press statement issued on Friday.
He urged the State Government and other authorities concerned to investigate the case and book the culprits in order to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
''We are deeply disturbed to see that the incidents of rape and assault on women are continually on the increase with no sign of abatement despite a wave of public outcry, condemnation and demonstrations,” he expressing his concern on behalf of the entire Christian community and the general public.
Archbishop Moras said it was shocking that even the young girls who have dedicated their lives to God are not spared and are becoming the victims of such a heinous crime.

''Along with the whole Christian community, I condemn the rape of this innocent young girl, and convey my sympathies and prayerful support to the members of her family and religious community,” he said.

Expressing his sadness and shock at the ''monstrous crime,” he said: ''We pray that all those who are drawn to evil may realize the damage that they are causing to the innocent victims in particular and to the society in general.”

''May they experience a change of heart and imbibed with basic human qualities,” he said.

''We, on our part, should have respect for each other, especially for women, and also ensure for their safe and secure living in our society,” the Archbishop said.

The Archbishop of Bangalore Archdiocese said: ''May all of us strive to uphold spiritual, social and ethical values, always keeping in mind the deepest spiritual tradition of our Motherland.”

''We, on our part, should have respect for each other, especially for women, and also ensure for their safe and secure living in our society,” the Archbishop added.

    Dear prabhu, manipal,

There were brutal rapes in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and in Chattisgarh. According to your own comment:

SNOOPING WOMEN, THE BJP AND THEIR GUIDE THE RSS HAVE proved THAT THEY ARE filled with rowdy's, now where u ppl who commented when pub attack.

Pub attacks were by the communal and not rowdies as you specified.
And in my opinion this rape was also by the communal.

After the Chaaiwaala modi took charge rapes have been increased.

The bjp rowdies were blaming upa for rapes in the country. Now why you are not blaming the chaaiwaala modi government.

Let us not blame any govt. for this cowardly act. I do not think any govt is supporting this type of acts. Let us all pray together so that this world especially the society around each and everyone of us live peacefully and happily and without any fear. Everyone one of us are having mother, sister, daughter, nieces, cousins, friends, teachers...............and so on. The list will be endless if you count the females you are coming across your whole life. You are in this world today because of some female. Why this world cannot respect the same gender??????????? Let us all pray to Mother Mary let her keep all the girls/females secure and let others give them the due respect they deserve. Why the convent has been targeted?? I feel, because the law is going little slow and soft on the other culprits who are undergoing trials on the same issue. They know for sure nothing will happen. Indian Law is very very slow and pressurized by the so called law-makers/breakers. My prayers are always with the nun and the convent sisters. The community had a very bad experience in orissa earlier. Let us not face the same problem again.
