Kerala film producer, family found dead in Dubai flat

Dubai, Jul 16 (Khaleej Times): Santhosh Kumar, who owns the production company Souparnika Films in the south Indian state of Kerala, was a co-producer of hit Malayalam movie Madambi.

The decomposed bodies of a Malayalam film producer based in Dubai, his wife and daughter were found under mysterious circumstances in their flat on Tuesday.

According to family sources, the bodies of Santhosh Kumar, his wife Manju and daughter Gouri bore multiple stab injuries. The Dubai Police could not be reached for comments.

However, it is learnt that the case is being treated as a suicide pact involving the couple and their fourth grader daughter.

Some of the acquaintances suspected that Kumar had resorted to the extreme step due to huge financial liabilities. However, the exact reason for the gruesome incident is yet to be ascertained.

Police broke open the door of the flat near NMC Hospital in Al Nahda after a cousin of Kumar complained that nobody could contact the family since Thursday.

"All three bodies were found inside the bedroom. I heard there was no sign of a forced entry into the flat," a family friend told Khaleej Times.

Kumar, who owns the production company Souparnika Films in the south Indian state of Kerala, was a co-producer of hit Malayalam movie Madambi and remakes of classic hits like Neelathaamara and Rathinirvedham.

Family friends said Kumar, who also runs a general trading company in Karama, shifted to Dubai about five years ago.

The tragic incident sent shockwaves among the community members, especially those from the film fraternity. In 2011, a murder-cum-suicide pact in Ras Al Khaimah had taken the lives of three members of another family hailing from Kerala.

try to follow a simple life style. Keep minimum amount in ur pocket. Don't buy unnecessary things in mall. If u want to buy anything just think of 100 times whether it is useful or luxurious. Don't go by car unnecessarily. Try to walk wherever u can. Please write what are all the expenses u have done, what are the savings and daily read it. And try to analyse and avoid all the future unnecessary expenses by reading it again and again. Make a budget of savings how much u have to achieve at the end of the year.

You are exposing a very serious problem faced with the nations and individuals. The U.S., the richest country is in total debt. Student loans debt of the 40 million students is over $ 1.1 trillion. Credit card debt over 1 trillion. Then Mortgage debt-car loan etc in trillions. The U.S. is a debtor mainly to China, then Japan and many other countries of the world. The politicians were raising the debt limit simply to pay the bills, but now the situation is like crossing the ocean in a leaking ship. Eurozone nations are in debt. This debt burden will be opening a new critical question very soon.

The vast majority of the people in the world were living in debt, and added more debt to keep up with their standard of living.

Simply to survive, we are all now forced to cut the corners and retreat to an old lifestyle of less consumption and spending.

To show my status in the society, I may be borrowing more without realizing that the society is not going to pay my debt.

Peddu bro, you have gone off course from the subject which is that there are reports that they were in financial crisis hence they are suspected to have taken this extreme step!!

Regarding degrees, the less spoken the better, they are just doled away!!

Just today I read in the front page of today's Mumbai edition of TOI that shockingly only 18.5% of the total engg. graduates who pass out from various colleges in our country are really of employable quality, just imagine then how much the quality of education has degraded due to mushrooming of colleges at a random pace!!

RIP!! Producing films is the most risky business when it comes to finances!! As most of the films are made on leverage and by borrowed funds any one big failure will bring the producer to his knees, and there is absolutely no other way out than to commit suicide due to the threat from moneylenders!!

    I agree with you.

In spite of hardships and limited source of income, old generation never gave up hopes and were committed to provide basic education to children. Hats of to such a dedicated and God fearing parents. There was no day that we could miss evening family prayer and see today's world.

    Materialistic world.

I think our parents should have committed suicide 1000 times in their lifespan when they were barely making the ends meet.
