Kasargod, Jul 16: Works to improve the condition of the road between Kasargod, Kanhangad and Chandragiri have been undertaken. However, because of landslides, the work has been suspended for the present.
Because of heavy rain, roadside hillocks have suffered landslides at several places on this road, affecting movement of traffic. In some cases, vehicular movement had to be suspended for long hours for this reason.
Over 20 houses located by the side of the road are facing danger. Huge mounds of mud crashed to the road at places like Chaliyangod, Valapothu, Kotarima etc. A portion of the road too faces the risk of buckling and suffering heavy damage.
As the landslide on Wednesday July 16 occurred before the works began, an accident that would have acquired catastrophic proportion was averted, the people feel.
Development works of this road have been undertaken under Kerala State Transport Project at an expense of Rs 139 crore.
