Karnataka govt relaxes norms for Ambareesh, to foot Rs 1.16-cr medical bill

Bangalore, Jul 16 (DHNS): Blessed are the netas whose medical expenses and foreign tours rarely make a dent in their finances. Reason: The government is ready to foot the bills.

Enjoying such privileges is Housing Minister M H Ambareesh. His medical bill to the tune of Rs 1.16 crore will be reimbursed by the State government.

As per a notification issued by the Department of Personnel & Administration (protocol) on July 11, the government will reimburse the amount he paid for treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore in February-March this year.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also heads the finance department, has given the clearance for relaxing certain norms to reimburse the medical bills.

As per the Medical Attendance Rule of 1958, ministers have to take medical treatment within the country, if the required facilities are available. The maximum reimbursement in such cases is usually Rs 5 lakh.

However, in case of Ambareesh, the rule was relaxed as his family decided to take him to Singapore. The chief minister approved this considering it as a special case.

The notification makes no mention of the nature of health problems faced by the minister. However, it states that the cost of his treatment in Singapore, air ambulance expenses, travel cost of his wife Sumalatha and three doctors — Dr M A Shekar (HoD, Department of Medicine, Mysore Medical College), Dr K S Satish (Vikram Hospital) and Dr N Raghunand (Vikram Hospital) — are included in the bill, which comes to a whopping Rs 1,16,90,137.

In addition, Ambareesh’s medical expenses at Vikram Hospital, where he received treatment initially, are yet to be cleared by the Finance Department. Sources said the government may have to clear another Rs 5 lakh worth of bills.

The minister was admitted to Vikram Hospital from February 21 to 28. He was then airlifted to the Singapore hospital, where he stayed till March 22. Ambareesh’s family took the advice of actor Rajnikanth and shifted him to the Singapore hospital.

Some strict laws to be set up to punish and hang these corrupt politicians. An ordinary politician how come he/she becomes crorepathi ? like DK shivaKumar, Deshpande, Reddy etc…they are getting just salaries ?? !! strict laws to be established /action to be taken by IT department to seize their properties other than salaries and public should be involved in each and every actions and decisions of the govt..

No way this should be allowed. Why should this be allowed ?? if it can be allowed for Ambareesh, then others should get it. Then only it should be allowed.

Tomorrow another will take full family, 5 specialists and one plane full of people to Switzerland. and Siddu will pass the bill ??

Our government is democratic or autocratic ? Siddu has to say NO. NOT ALLOWED. was permission for reimbursement taken ? Here if we have to get medical reimbursement for Rs 2000, we have to run from pilar to post. and Now 1.6 crores reimbursement from taxpayers money.

Siddu wants to give, no problem. Let him give from his PERSONAL ACCOUNT. surely NO FROM GOVERNMENT ACCOUNT.

AMBARISH,,,, a noted film actor by profession made lot of money in this field.Acting was his job and it was well paid at that time.

He spent little money on his chamchas to form a fan club on his name to prove his personality when he gets less offers in film field. This was well calculated plan.

He was the great donor for congress party and grabbed the MLA and MP seat by paying the party an handsome amount. Its a open secret.

He was a chain smoker and full time boozer. It was his choice and fallen ill by this habit.

Now whats the fun in paying his medical bills ? Whose money it will be ? I strongly oppose this.

We can build one more wing at Govt Lady Goshen Hospital in Mangalore by spending 1 Crore, which will be useful to millions at this part.

This is height of waste of tax payers money. Can we initiate any legal action against this nonsense like PIL, court case. Can learned readers advise? If we do not act now this nonsense will go on and the government will not hesitate other ministers bill for the treatment of AIDS

I completely agree with your point. My God this is utter newsense. If Ambarish has money to buy expensive drinks and cigarettes, can’t he afford to pay for his own medical bills and prove that he is doing justice to the tax payer’s money. Moreover he is filthy rich compared to all other films starts in sandalwood. Why the Govt is initiating these kinds of reservations to politicians. There are so many poor kids who suffer from cancer and incurable diseases where Govt is not even able to pay minimum amount to save those children. I see most of the time their parents would come in front of media and ask to raise funds to save their children.

We kannadigas have great respect for Ambarish. It's a good gesture by CM to publicly to take care of his medical fee even knowing it will mostly be criticized.
When Dr.Rajkumar was kidnapped earlier by Mr.Veerappan, the government paid three crores to release him & after Dr.Rajkumar died of heart attack, his fans destroyed public property worth 50 crores!!

Why special status for Amabareesh. Rather govt could have helped thousands of poor people who can not afford treatment. Ambareesh has misused his powers and obtained govt sites under different quotas.

It's just not like Ambareesh to
carry on like a Parasite. Looks like the drinks and the company of politicians has taken it's toll on him. Hope somebody sane in his company will drill some sense into him.

Ambarish is responsible for his illness, of his heavy booze & chain smoking. Spending Govt money is on his medical bill is completely wrong. In our state so many poor patients are dying everyday just waiting for Govt fund release. It is better to be a neta of any party so that, you can enjoy a maximum...

It is surprising that kannada movie fans worshiping this man as big hero. This guy even unfit to be a villain. With what he is getting reimbursement from this government was enough for nearly 35 to 40 poor heart patients open heart surgery at Narayana Hrudeyalaya in Bangalore. Next trip to Europe and another one to USA will be enough for his next generation. Jai ho Karnataka, Jai ho Congress !!

In India, Ambareesh's medical reports could leak out. So Singapore was a better get away. His problems are only Alcohol related. Let Ambareesh hand over a copy of his medical reports to claim the Govt. lottery.

Most of Ambareesh's health problems are alcohol related. Why should the Karnataka tax payer and Govt. pay for that ? The Doctors have advised him not to touch a of alcohol henceforth. Let him handover a copy of his medical report to the media.
