Kundapur, Jul 11: BJP member Nagesh from Belur taluk panchayat constituency was unanimously elected vice-president in the taluk panchayat elections as he was the sole candidate for the post.
The government has reserved the position of president for a general category candidate and the post of vice-president for a scheduled caste category candidate in the taluk panchayat elections held for the next term.
As per the reservation, aspirants for the post of president, BJP member from Koni taluk panchayat constituency, Bhaskara Billawa, and Congress member Pradeep Kumar Shetty from Kavradi constituency, had submitted their nominations. In the election held at Kundapur taluk panchayat hall on the afternoon of Friday July 11 at 3.30 pm, Billawa secured the support of 22 members and was elected president.
Among the 35 members covering Kundapur and Byndoor legislative assembly constituencies in Kundapur taluk panchayat, the BJP has 22 members, Congress has 12, and CPI (M) has 1. The two winners have been elected for the first time.
Kundapur divisional revenue official Yogeshwara, who conducted the election, congratulated the newly-elected president and the vice-president. Taluk panchayat executive official Gopal Shetty and others were present.
In the programme that followed the election process, the new president and vice-president were felicitated. BJP Byndoor constituency committee president B M Sukumar Shetty, state BJP fishermen's group convener B Kishorekumar, BJP leaders Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Mohandas Shenoy, Sadashiva Paduvari, Zilla panchayat members Mamatha R Shetty, Ganapathi Shriyan, Prakash Mendon, Kundapur BJP constituency committee president Rajesh Cavery, senior taluk panchayat member Kedooru Sadananda Shetty, Alooru Manjayya Shetty, Belladi Shanker Shetty, Deepika Shetty, Hemavathi Poojary, and Pradeep Shetty Bidkalkatte congratulated the newly-appointed officials.
