Udupi, Aug 3: Overloaded ore laden trucks have been prevented from entering Udupi. The North Karnataka Lorry Owners’ Association is also irked by this and took to streets on Tuesday, Jul 2.

The ban order has stranded over 1000 lorries on the border of Udupi, but this issue is taking a political twist with BJP sticking on to its stand of not lifting the ban, and congress leaders leaving no stone unturned to condemn this move.

K Raghupati Bhat, president, district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, said on Wednesday that his party was committed to stopping the entry of overloaded lorries carrying iron ore into Udupi district.  He has urged the congress leaders not to politicize the issue.

Bhat also denied the allegation made against him that plans to collect ‘Hafta’ by facilitating the ban.

Amidst this conflict, the lorry owners and drivers are victims. Those lorries which have required documents and weigh less than 16 tonnes have also been prevented from entering the city.
