Feel proud for carrying out Mumbai triple blasts: Yasin Bhatkal tells police

Mumbai, Jul 5 (PTI): Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal, arrested in connection with the 2011 Mumbai triple blast case, told the Mumbai police that he feels "proud of himself" for carrying out the blasts.

"Whatever I have done, I feel proud of myself," Bhatkal said in his confessional statement, recorded by the Mumbai police, a copy of which is with PTI.

The Maharashtra control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), under which Bhatkal is charged with, authorises the DCP-level officer to record the confessional statement of the accused.

When Deputy Commissioner of Police Kishore Jadhav, asked Bhatkal, as to why he wants to give confessional statement, he said, "I don't regret for the blast that I have carried out and therefore, I want to give confessional statement."

Bhatkal also told the police that he does not consider the blasts carried out by him as a crime.

Bhatkal's aide Asadullah Akthar, also told the police, in the confessional statement, that he too does not regret the blast carried out by him.

In the confessional statement, both the accused stated the details of the blasts carried out by them in various places in the country, since 2005 to avenge the 2002 Godhra riots.

The Anti Terrorism Squad of the Maharashtra Police on June 16 had filed a 300-page supplementary chargesheet against Indian Mujahideen (IM) co-founder Yasin Bhatkal and his aide Asadullah Akthar in connection with the 2011 triple blast case.

The duo was arrested on February 5 this year by the Maharashtra ATS after a Delhi court allowed its plea seeking their custody.

According to ATS, Bhatkal was the key conspirator of the three powerful blasts which ripped through crowded areas in Mumbai's - Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Kabutar Khana, on July 13, 2011, killing at least 21 people and injuring 141.

Bhatkal played an important role in procuring explosives and making Improvised Explosive Device (IED), police said.

Earlier, five accused - Naquee Ahmed, Nadeem Shaikh, Kanwar Pathrija, Haroon Naik and Mohammed Qafeel Ansari were held in the case and are facing trial under the stringent MCOCA, Indian Penal Code and other laws.

Those wanted in the case are Riyaz Bhatkal, who is also a top operative of the alleged home-grown terror outfit, Waqas Ibrahim Sad, Dubai-based Muzaffar Kolah and Tehseen Akhtar Shaikh, the police said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had arrested Yasin Bhatkal (30), who is wanted in over 40 terror cases and carries a reward of Rs 35 lakh on his head, as well as Akhtar, from the Indo-Nepal border on the night of August 28, 2013.

Bhatkal, who hails from Bhatkal village of Udupi district in North Karnataka, is wanted in a string of terror attacks in Ahmedabad, Surat, Bangalore, Pune, Delhi and Hyderabad, according to NIA.

Indeed very necessary for people like you and bhatkal's parents who used to tell bhatkal is innocent. Now you realize where you are standing? definitely you are not in Islamic path if you support any criminal.

Several readers are disagreeing with the condemnations and apparently they are seeing things differently. Here is my answer, and my comment would have the same fate IF it gets published.

Yasin co-founded the Indian Mujahideen which begs 2 important questions.
    Q1. Who is a Mujahideen?
Q2. What motivates them to kill and be killed, and most importantly what do they believe they are going to achieve?

A1. Mujahid-deen is an Arabic word which means a religious soldier that struggles violently for propagating his beliefs. Hence, a Mujahideen is not a “Gandhi” like figure, but a warrior whose chest swells in pride when he kills and he goes about his business wilfully.

A2. Unlike a soldier in the Indian national army who wears a uniform to defend his country and is paid in cash/kind for doing so. If he dies, his colleagues and the nation grieve and his family will receive some monetary compensation. A soldiers is governed by international rules of engagement and may or may not be remorseful for deaths they may have caused and fight only when ordered to do so. Whereas, the Mujahideen almost never get paid, he is governed by theocratic laws and is never remorseful of what he is doing, because he firmly believes that this what his deity wants him to do. They do not wear a uniform, may act alone or part of the group and his only motivation is the ideology.

While a soldier tries hard to stay alive, the Mujahid wants to die. It is only then he can claim his packaged reward that includes carnal pleasure, and a life in eternity. It is not hard to figure what the Mujahideen are up to, just listen and note down chapter and verse and then go and read from authentic texts and you will have the answers to all your questions.

I feel disturbed even to think that such a nasty creature has taken birth in our holy land-INDIA and that too in our Karnataka State. Bhatkal brothers are gifted with talent which they used for terrorism and anti national actvities. Such rouges are more danagerous as they live in our midst and carry out their task sucessfully. It is high time for BJP Government to implement ID card for every citizen of the country so that at every stage of hiring rooms/flats/villas some sort of identification is made available for security reasons.

But one thing we all must agree. its the devsive politics right from the stage of British when they left country and their legacy continued by our political system to gain power is also one of the root cause for the creation of these kind anti social elements and groups. it is all as simple as giving good teachings to the people, make them to feel that we are one, and above not divide the people by dividing them by preaching hatred and inducing communal tension and violence for the sake of power which makes this strong multi cultured, multi religion, multi linguistic proud nation a ver wek one.we can be a super power of this world provided our political parties develops unity within us.

I totally agree with some of our unbiased readers who rightly said that such evils are a burden on earth and are spoiling the name of religion. Loyal and patriotic people who keep their country first are paying the price for these traitors. He says he is proud of what he did but does not think of his parents who must be going through hell because of his acts. Unfortunately these attacks are being carried out throughout the world and in the process the religion and good people belonging to that religion is looked upon as bad. I fail to understand what they aim to achieve after all.

To avenge 2002 riots this guy started blasting IED's in random places in random cities which resulted in killing lots of Innocent people who did not have any connection to the riots whatsoever which also included innocent hard working people from his own community. what a genius! if the families of those innocent people also starts blasting IED's in random places for avenging and if it continues like that then this world would have been in ruins.
