Bantwal, Jul 4: The body of Vinod (25), son of Thimmappa Poojary from Arkechchar in Idkidu village in the taluk, was found lying by the side of a rivulet near Gundia within the limits of Sakleshpur police station in Hassan district recently. The Sakleshpur police had recorded the death as having happened under suspicious circumstances, and after Vittal station house officer, Raghavendra T R, took up with Sakleshpur station, the identity of the murdered youth was established.
Vinod was a known criminal as per the records with the police department. His body, which continued to be in the custody of Sakleshpur police station, has since been handed over to his family.
The policemen of Sakleshpur got doubt about the cause of Vinod's death, after finding marks made by iron mesh around his neck, and injuries on his right temple. It is suspected that he was murdered elsewhere, before his body was abandoned here. However, a definite conclusion can be arrived at only after studying postmortem report and conducting other investigations in detail, police sources said.
Vinod had been sentenced to three months imprisonment in a case of stealing a gas cylinder kept in front of the house of Mohiuddin from Kambalabettu in March 2013. He continued to live away from his family after his release from jail, and it is said that his family had not seen him since the last about 18 months.
