Mangalore / Udupi: Overloaded trucks plying in and out of the district was the bane of the region. While roads and minor bridges faced the brunt of their movement, people’s woes seem to fall on deaf ears.
The silver lining can now been seen in the twin coastal districts of Udupi and DK.
On Sunday, overloaded ore laden trucks were stopped from entering Udupi. Following the order by in-charge minister for Udupi V S Acharya the district administration prevented over 100 trucks from entering the district at the border of Shirur.
The ban came into action as the Highway Authority complained about the movement of over loaded trucks on the highway.
The complaint stated that the roads and bridged had been damaged by the movement of the overloaded trucks.
The order was released on Jul 27, but however implemented from Jul 30.
Sources have revealed that in DK district a ban on ore-laden trucks has been ordered by the Pollution Control Board. Citing the reason for the ban as Pollution Control, movement of ore-laden trucks has been stopped.
The order comes to the residents of the twin district as a respite from the overloaded truck menace.
