Bantwal, Jul 4: The Bantwal police here arrested three persons on charges of assaulting a youth who was accompanying his friend and his sister, when travelling by bus near Kalladka in the taluk on the evening of Thursday July 3. A case of assault was registered in the station against them on the basis of complaint filed by Qasim Rahim from Gauribidanur.
Qasim and his friend Kiran had accompanied Kiran's sister during her visit to a school in Kalladka, for collecting her study certificate. It is said that the locals grew suspicious about the motive of these two youngsters because of their 'unusual behaviour', and resorted to physical altercation.
The girl had arrived at BC Road by a train from Bangalore, and had visited her alma mater, Sri Rama Highschool in Kalladka, to collect certain documents. The locals reportedly grew suspicious as the two youth had been waiting at a distance for the girl to return. It is said that the people also had observed that during her visit by auto rickshaw to the house of her aunt at Vogga near here for collecting her belongings, the two youth preferred to stay at a distance and wait for her.
The trio was forced to get down from a bus at Kalladka town by a group of locals, who objected to the presence of a Muslim youth with Kiran and his sister, it is gathered.
After the incident gave rise to tense moments at Kaladka, the policemen sent the three visitors to the police station located at B C Road by an auto rickshaw. Qasim Rahim said in his complaint, that three men, who intercepted the auto rickshaw near K C Road, dragged him out of the vehicle before thrashing him.
Enquiries revealed that the girl student, a native of Udupi, is pursuing a degree course in a private college by staying at a hostel at Brahmavar near Udupi. She had completed her PU education in a college in Bangalore, as her parents run a canteen there. After visiting her parents for some days, the girl was returning to Brahmavar with the above two persons who are said to be past students of the PU college in which she had studied.
Bantwal town police said that relating to the incident, locals, Viswanath, Shivaraj, and Vijit, were arrested and released on bail.
