Kundapur, Jul 29: In another gruesome crime, a husband hacked his wife to death for a trivial reason and then hung himself to death at Ajri near Shankarnarayana here on Friday July 28 morning.

Narayana Poojary (46) of Ajri killed his wife Kaveri (42) after assaulting her on neck with a sickle for not giving him money to buy beedies and betel nut.  Thereafter he hung himself to a jackfruit tree near his house.

The incident took place on Friday.  Their daughter Bhagirathi had gone to work in a cashew factory at Siddhapur on Friday morning as usual.  Narayana came to house while Kaveri was busy in the kitchen and asked her to given him money. She refused.  Enraged by her refusal, he picked up a sickle which was in the kitchen and assaulted Kaveri on her neck.  She sustained serious injuries and died on the spot in a pool of blood.  Having seen his wife die, Narayana too went out and hung himself to death to a tree.

The incident came to light only when Bhagirathi came home from her work.  After seeing her mother in a pool of blood in the kitchen, she shouted for help.  Immediately the neighbours gathered.  Soon they also found Narayana hanging from the nearby tree.

The couple had five children.  While Bhagirathi worked in the cashew factory at Siddhapur, their two other boys Jayram and Sathish are rickshaw drivers in Siddhapur.  The two younger daughters Suguna and Kasturi are studying in highschool at Siddhapur.

Kundapur CI Valentine D'Souza visited the place along with SI Suresh Kumar.  The autopsy of the bodies was conducted at Siddhapur PHC and the bodies were later handed over to the family.
