Kundapur: 23-year-old drowns while fishing in river

Kundapur, Jul 1: A young man drowned while fishing at Chakranadi at Gangolli here on Tuesday July 1.

The deceased, Shantaram (23), a resident of Bagavady, Devakunda, was the son of the late Narayana and Chandu.

Shantaram was the fifth among 8 children, three girls and five boys, of Narayana and Chandu.

On Tuesday, he along with his two brothers had been to Chakravadi river to fish. However, when Shantaram threw in the fishing line, he lost balance and fell into the river, and was swept away, it is said.

His two brothers at once raised an alarm, and locals as well as firemen and police rushed to the spot.

After some effort, the fire personnel retrieved his body.

Shantaram was working as a waiter at a hotel in Badami. He had come back to his hometown just two months ago.

The body was shifted to government hospital.

Gangolli police have registered a case.
