Mangalore, Jul 1: A worker employed with Mangalore city corporation (MCC) allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Bajal here late night on Monday June 30. The incident came to light on the morning of Tuesday July 1.
The deceased, Yashwant (40), was found hanging in his room.
Yashwant was a worker in the water supply department of MCC for the last 15 years, and was in charge of supplying water to Jeppinamogeru and Kudroli areas.
It is said that he had not received salary from the last three months, and repeated appeals to the engineer in charge evoked no response.
Sources said that despite working under MCC for 15 years, he was a temporary employee and was getting a salary of Rs 6,500, but it was not paid regularly, it is learnt.
Being from a poverty-stricken family, Yashwant could no longer bear with the non-payment of salary and fed up with the attitude of his seniors, he took the extreme step, sources said.
He leaves behind his wife and a child aged 7 years.
The body was shifted to the mortuary at Wenlock hospital.
Mangalore rural police registered a case.
