Mangalore, Jul 1: A worker employed with Mangalore city corporation (MCC) allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Bajal here late night on Monday June 30. The incident came to light on the morning of Tuesday July 1.

The deceased, Yashwant (40), was found hanging in his room.

Yashwant was a worker in the water supply department of MCC for the last 15 years, and was in charge of supplying water to Jeppinamogeru and Kudroli areas.

It is said that he had not received salary from the last three months, and repeated appeals to the engineer in charge evoked no response.

Sources said that despite working under MCC for 15 years, he was a temporary employee and was getting a salary of Rs 6,500, but it was not paid regularly, it is learnt.

Being from a poverty-stricken family, Yashwant could no longer bear with the non-payment of salary and fed up with the attitude of his seniors, he took the extreme step, sources said.

He leaves behind his wife and a child aged 7 years.

The body was shifted to the mortuary at Wenlock hospital.

Mangalore rural police registered a case.

Top officials in MCC including the commissioner, joint commissioner, and others don't need salary as they make much much more by taking bribe....Hence they are least bothered about other workers who are paid a low amount. What is the commissioner doing? Busy counting money ? Sleeping? Is he not aware that this poor man has not been paid salary for months? You should answer commissioner Ajit Hegde.

It is appalling to find that workers are not paid their salary.

It is pertinent to ask why salaries are not paid to the workers on time. That apart the question arises why a worker is not made permanent when he has put in fifteen years of service.

Hope the person or persons responsible for this catastrophe are severely dealt with.

Poor Yashwant had to die this way.

MCC HAS TO COMPENSATE A VERY BIG AMOUNT OR GIVE THE DECEASED WIFE A CHANCE TO WORK TO TAKE CARE OF THE FAMILY.
NEGLIGENT ENGINEER IN-CHARGE ALSO HAS TO COMPENSATE HERE.

May his soul rest in peace. This is the result of partiality on employees in working places. Some are eating whales and some are not eating even sardine. Salary delay is not only in MCC, it is also common in Health & Education departments salary is not paid still for two months in Health department for ANMs.

It is not the Engineering in charge who is the abettor to this suicide. There are quite a number of others who have been working in the Corporation as temporaries or as daily rated. The entire system is rotten calling for a complete overhaul from top to bottom. The Corporation is the worst offender of labour laws. Come to think of it, is Rs.6,500 the monthly wage to sustain any family in these times of extreme dearness?

very sad after 15 years he is entitled to get pension were as he lost his life.People expect to get paid for the work they do. And if it is a monthly package then they expect to be paid at the end of the month. For they depend on this to meet their daily needs and planned expenses. There are bills to pay. There are school fees to be paid and in a worst-case scenario, have to foot medical bills. Put in a similar situation, engineers in such companies will the first to scream if their salaries were delayed. may god rest his soul in peace

Rest in peace, i think he was Honesty, Hard worker and sincerity person that is why he "fed up with the attitude of his seniors" and their irresponsible seniors taken benefits of his honesty attitude. It is very sad to say MCC not paid his monthly salary only Rs 6,500 in 3 months!
Now a days nobodies care Poors family life. and their seniors are busy to making corruption Money.
