Young girls wearing short dresses and going to pub against our culture: Goa minister

Panaji, Jul 1 (PTI):   A senior minister in the Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government in Goa has echoed controversial Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik saying that the practice of young girls visiting pubs in short dresses is against local culture and should be stopped.

"The (practice of) young girls going to pubs in short dresses does not fit in our culture. What will happen to our Goan culture, if we allow this?...The scantily dressed girls visiting pubs project wrong culture and this should be stopped," said state PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar.

The minister said, "Whatever Muthalik is saying is not wrong. He is not speaking against any religion. Everyone has a right to speak about his own religion."

The Sri Ram Sene activists had attacked girls and men in a pub in Mangalore in 2009, claiming the women were violating traditional Indian values.

Muthalik's induction in BJP ahead of recent Lok Sabha Elections was cancelled after a hue and cry was generated apparently over his anti-modernity image.

Dhavlikar said: "Muthalik is against pub culture and he is right in opposing it.

Dhavlikar also ruled out banning Muthalik from opening branch of his outfit in Goa as demanded by Congress, saying "You cannot ban anybody going anywhere. I can go anywhere in India."

"There are a number of NGOs operating in Goa and Sri Ram Sene would be yet another NGO in the State. However, we will not tolerate any attempt to create any law and order problem in the state," the minister said.

"Sri Ram Sene is like Shiv Sena of yesteryears which was doing similar things," he said while referring to Sena's agenda of the past in which the saffron party would oppose celebration of Valentine Day by calling it as a cultural invasion.

The honorable Ministers are not interested in the rise in hooliganism, rapes, murders, theft and the fact that how the rapid growth of these negative values has become an intrinsic part of Indian culture.
They are no doubt more interested in the virtues of Sex Education and Looking up women's skirts. Apparently that's the only thing on their minds and the only pressing problem that India currently faces.

day by day some People are getting bored may be.Goa was a place where Portuguese People brought the culture of wearing such Dresses everywhere.and they continue still even after that.In Mangalore also Ladys were not wearing selwar cameez but sari.same way in Delhi due to climate selwar kameez.as the Fashion came it in Mangalore and remained it.why should one Minister say what one has to wear and not.premium he sould give Attention to goondas and murderers and Problems of Country like health Problems, hygiene etc.we are not in ancient Ages.Is it culture a man to go to Pub drink and spoil the Family? In a democratic Country everyone has a right to go and do what he/she wants in whatever Outfit to go.so Long they Dress decent not offensive. For a woman /Girl a good Fitting Dress can look attractive .so why not?is this Minister is doing in his home also same?

What is wrong culture and right culture?

Honorable Goa State PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar can you tell me if prostitutes in brothels in Goa wear short dresses?

If you are not aware then most of them if not all wear saris and or the salwar khameez and look typically indian with all their kajaal and laali and yet they are prostitutes.

So does dress code really seperate the good and the bad.

While I am not in favor of any indecent clothing yet I have the duty to respect the right of every indian because the indian constitution guarantees every citizen their right to dress without any prejudice to the type of clothing.

By the way pub culture is not Goan, it is imported into Goa by delhi/mumbai/bangalore based businesses to take a lions share from the tourism industry.

And again it is women from these indian places who come to Goa to flaunt their all as in their places they face the gravest risk of getting ganged raped if they ventured out in such revealing clothes. Go to the Dabolim airport and see those arriving or departing from or to these places.

Honorable Goa State PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar you have TWO OPTIONS to stop women from scandalizing you and provoking your senses:

    1. STOP TOURISM
    OR
    2. Get busy with your silly business of filling the millions of potholes on roads all over the state of Goa as no road there is fit for comfortable travel and it will surely help you to take your eyes off women with short dresses.

And as for your mentor - the controversial Sri Ram Sene chief Pramod Muthalik well something similar will be advised to him if he ventures to invade Goa.

And for you my dearest IITian CM of GOA:

please educate your ministers into beneficial State Administration Affairs that will benefit the Goan populace at large and not divert money and attention on silly issues like women in short dresses which does not benefit anyone.

At least this was what I had expected of an IITian CM.

Do you expect them to visit pubs and bars with saree or fully covered?? Is he desperate for Pink Chadi? Dress code is up to pub or restaurant management. Does he mean all these years Goans lived without culture or proper dress sense?? For being in news they come out with some statement!

Earlier fully dressed ,covering every part, wearing veil over head
was considered our culture. Respecting, saluting elders and everything was a norm nobody failed to comply with.
Now wearing a bare minimum, exposing what one has,bob-cut , bun cut, pony tail and all that is the in-thing. Now this faSHION HAS BECOME OUR CULTURE. yOU HAVE TO KEEP PACE WITH TIMES-iS IT NOT?fOR THE ELDERS IN ANY CASE THERE ARE THE 'oLD hOMES' AND all that-Is it not?

If wearing short clothes (At least they are wearing clothes) is not culture then what culture is "Shiv Sena" raiding into houses and hitting people.. especially girls ? Is that how they are trying to maintain culture ? Its a shame to have these people to be in our leaders list. India has faced shame not because girls wear short clothes, but its because of these people. No person can say "Mera Bharath Mahan" anymore thanks to our friends who maintain Indian culture ..

I am not in favour of any party. But looking it from a different angle. Yes, we lost the beauty of our culture. Our country was famous to maintain the religious fragrance around the world. Our women were respected all over the world. The traditional attires like salwars, sari covering their body... those were our ladies. Now in the name of globalization or modernization we are looking for options to expose ourselves. Is it mandatory to wear shorts exposing your body ? I blame media and celebrities for this. With the need of getting publicity or commercial needs they started provoking our young ones to go for these kind of behaviour. If you see advertisements, public displays, everywhere our own lady celebrities expose themselves. I want to recall recent movie songs with their photography ... songs like munni badnaam huyi, Pallu ke neeche chupa ke rakha... if you see those clippings and all... what a vulgar wordings, dance... I am sure these are playing key roles in making our society so evil.

So, let's rethink and act upon to bring back those cultural and traditional values. I am seeing it's going to worst from bad. they take it a liberty to wear as small dress as possible. I am sure the eye teasing is more on these girls. If anybody going desent dressed, it will definitely be less. Indirectly you are provoking all these culprits...

Some one and some where has to start. I am not telling restrict girls from all the flexibility they have. But if they voluntarily don't adhere to these values, may be it has to be applied forcibly from external powers. So, choice is for girls. either you change yourself to get back your respect or either you face the consequences or you will be forced to change... not sure.

If we don't want the young generations to go to pubs then let the government cancel the license of all pubs and bars. There are many things which are bad in our society. People consuming alchol, drugs, Gutka, Cigrattes, Beedi....everything to be banned. It damages peoples health.
Muthalik has great concern towards society. I appreciate his concern and here is a piece of advice to him. Let him stitch uniform to all Indians as per our culture....A saffron colour dothi for Men and for Women (Muthalik's choice).
