Goa iron firm forges bank loan documents

Panaji, June 27 (IANS): Goa's top mines official has accused an iron ore trading company of forging his signature to secure a loan from a nationalised bank, police said Friday.

Goa government's mines and geology director Prasanna Acharya has complained to the Crime Branch that the promoters of Seagull Ore Carriers presented a no-objection certificate to the Corporation Bank in Vasco, 35 km from here, to secure a loan running into crores.

Acharya is a key figure in the investigations into the Rs.35,000-crore illegal mining scam in the state.

Several petty iron ore traders have been booked by the state government in connection with the mining scam in which politicians, bureaucrats and mining magnates are linked.
