Kasargod, Jun 22: A young school teacher was on Sunday June 22 arrested for allegedly sexually harassing six high school girls, three months after a complaint was filed.
The accused, Balamurali (26) is a resident of Neerchal, Badiadka.
It is said that between 2012 and March 2014, he allegedly sexually harassed six girls in the high school he was teaching in. He used to take his victim to the computer lab and sexually harass her, and threaten with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone. Intimidated by his threats, the girls never spoke up.
However, in March this year, one of the victims mustered courage and told her parents about the teacher's behaviour. The parents in turn complained to the Childline, which took up the matter. During counselling, the Childline officials learnt that five other girls had fallen prey.
A complaint against Balamurali was then registered in Kasargod town police station.
As soon as Balamurali learnt about the complaint, he took leave from the school and never returned. The school management too reportedly sided with him. Balamurali went absconding and it was only now, three months after the complaint was lodged, that he was traced and arrested.
Kasargod town police are investigating further.
