Mangalore: Jul 21: Agitated over the pathetic condition of the National Highways in the district, the members the BJP Yuva Morcha protested before the office of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at Valencia.
They vented their ire by locking up the project office. The agitators shouted slogans and demanded that the planning director Gowsane who was on leave to return to office immediately.
Praveen Barke, president of the youth wing led the protest and was joined by Suratkal youth wing president Tilakraj, Bajrang Dal district president Rajgopal Rai and minority unit district president Aziz Baikampady.
The police had to intervene and Gawasane was called in to pacify the protesters. The officer who spoke to the member of the Yuva Morcha explained to them that asphalting of the road is not possible during the monsoon.
Agitated by this answer, the protestors threatened to go on a hunger strike. The police finally broke open the lock and let the officer in.
