Mangalore, Jun 17: Two persons were allegedly attacked with rods and wickets by a group of eight at Alekala, Ullal near here on Tuesday June 17.
Zakir Hussain (45) and A H Farooq (47), were admitted to a hospital after they were attacked over an issue relating to appointments to the local mosque committee.
It is said that in 2012, the South Kanara Salafi Movement (SKSM) had appointed Zakir Hussain and A H Farooq as secretary and president, respectively, of Al Furqan Masjid at Alekala for a period of three years. However, the very next year they were axed by SKSM, reportedly without any prior notice or valid reason.

However, the SKSM did not do so, and as D H Farooq and Fakruddin continued to serve in their posts, Zakir filed a complaint against 16 persons in Ullal police station for not obeying the court order. In the complaint, Zakir also alleged that he was not allowed to enter the mosque and was threatened of dire consequences if he did so.
Sources said that with regard to this complaint, a hearing was scheduled for Wednesday June 18, and the assault on them was allegedly carried out by 8 of the 16 people accused in the complaint, reportedly to prevent Zakir and Farooq from appearing in the court. Shahid, Iqbal, Meat Nazir, Sporting Farooq, Faizal and Shafiq were identified among the assualters, source said. Among them, Shahid and Faizal were also injured and admitted to hospital, it is learnt.
