Karkal, Jun 15: Policemen attached to Ajekar station in Karkala taluk succeeded in arresting Hasainar alias Rafique from Keyyur Janata Colony in Puttur taluk. Rafique had fled after seeing the railway police at Kasargod, when taking a girl from Ajekar to Ponnani allegedly for converting her to Islam. The arrest was made on Friday June 13.
The railway police, who had grown suspicious at the movement of a girl who was all alone at night at Kasargod,were told by the girl that three youth standing separately a little distance away had escorted her there. After seeing that the policemen were approaching them, Hasainar and his friends had fled from there. On further enquiry, the girl told the railway police that Hasainar, with whom the girl was in love, had taken away her ornaments and clothes.
It is learnt that the girl, working in a cashew factory in Muniyal near Karkala, had fallen in love with Hasainar, who used to visit this factory often. Hasinar, it is gathered,pestered the girl to marry him and wanted her to get converted to his religion. On June 12, he had taken the girl in a car to Kasargod with the help of three of his friends. From Kasargod, they were waiting to leave to Ponnani by train, when the girl was sighted by the railway police.
After the railway police contacted Ajekar police station, the policemen from there arrived in Kasargod along with the parents of the girl, and took her home. A case was filed in Ajekar against Hasainar for taking away ornaments belonging to the girl. The policemen found out Hasinar's location during the investigation, based on the location of his cell phone. With help from the policemen of Puttur rural station, they raided the house of the accused on Friday, and arrested Hasainar alias Rafique. Gold ornaments belonging to the girl were also recovered. Two others,who are absconding, are said to be from Uppinangady. The policemen are now making efforts to nab them.
