Karkala, Jul 17: In another fatal accident, an eighth standard student of St Lawrence School at Attur near here was killed on Monday July 17 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Gopalkrishna Bhat (13), son of Harishchandra Bhat (30), a resident of Kaijaje-Hosamane.  He was going to school on Monday morning in his father's rickshaw along with his younger brother Gururaj (9) and uncle Vithal Bhat's daughter Jayashree (9) when a bus belonging to Nitte College came and rammed into their rickshaw near Attur Church.

As a result Gopalkrishna died on the spot while his father and rickshaw driver Harishchandra sustained critical injuries.  Gururaj and Jayashree have escaped with minor injuries.  All the injured have been admitted to hospital.

Usually the children used to go to school by bus. But on Monday morning, Harishchandra had to go early to pick some passengers.  So he took his children so that he could drop them near their school.  His brother Vithal's daughter Jayashree too accompanied her cousins.

But fate had something else in store for them.  The Nitte College bus driven recklessly by Madhusudhan rammed into the rickshaw even after Harishchandra had stopped it beside the road sensing danger.

Karkala police have registered a case in this regard.
