Mangalore, Jul 16: The Government Girls PU College, Car Street has been the first school in the entire Karnataka State to have affiliated its Kannada and Culture club to the Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
The Parishat had launched a project in the state to bring Kannada and Culture clubs of every school under its fold and thus popularize Kannada literature and culture.
The first school formally registered itself with the parishat on Saturday, Jul 15.
DK district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura inaugurated the club at a function held at the college and handed over the name board of the club carrying the symbol of the parishat to the college principal P P Joseph.
Speaking on the occasion, Kalkura said that the district unit of the parishat has set itself as a model to others in the state by registering the first Kannada literature and culture club of an education institution.
Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president Seetharam Kulal, general manager of Karnataka Bank Jayaram Bhat, Yakshagana scholar Dr M Prabhakar Joshi, Mangalore University College lecturer Satyanarayan Mallipatna and corporator Premchand were also present.
