Mangalore, Jun 7: The Mulky police on Friday June 6 arrested a 44-year-old man on charges of raping his own minor daughter. He was arrested after the girl herself approached the police and demanded justice.

Following her complaint, the girl's father, Vittal (44), was arrested and produced in court. He was sent to judicial custody for 15 days.

Vittal, who has two wives and five children, allegedly raped his first wife's 15-year-old daughter.

Vittal is employed as a coolie in KSR Nagar. The girl in her complaint stated that he had been sexually assaulting her for the last one month and threatening to kill her if she complained to anyone. The girl stays in a hostel and had come home last month on vacation, it is learnt.

The girl further said that he would sexually assault her at home itself, and would make his two wives drink alcohol besides himself getting drunk and harassing her. On Thursday June 5 night, when a big fight erupted at home over this issue, the girl with the help of a relative approached the police on Friday and narrated the incident.

The girl as well as her father were later sent for medical examination, the reports of which are awaited.

It is said that Vittal, an alcoholic, had last month consumed poison and attempted suicide in a state of drunken stupor. He was rushed to hospital and was saved. He is said to be part of some organization and has even participated in protests, say the locals.

Mulky police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
