Mangalore, Jun 6: Rajani from the Congress party and Prakash Yedapadavu from the BJP were on Friday June 6 elected as president and vice-president, respectively, of Mangalore taluk panchayat.
The elections were held at the taluk panchayat meeting hall.
Rajani was elected unanimously as there was no candidate from the BJP for the post which was reserved for SC. For the post of the vice president, the Congress fielded Prakash Hosabettu and BJP's candidate was Prakash Yedapadavu.
Prakash Yedapadavu secured 19 votes while and Prakash Hosabettu got 17. Of the 32 BJP members, 31 were present and among the 19 Congress members,1 was absent.
Assistant commissioner Dr Prashanth conducted the elections.
Rajani and Prakash were later congratulated by minister U T Khadar.
