Mangalore, Jun 4: In yet another case of its kind, a passenger arriving from Dubai was arrested at Mangalore International Airport for trying to smuggle nearly 2.5 kg of gold on Tuesday June 3 night.
The passenger, identified as Hussainar Kudva, is a resident of Perla, Kasargod.
He was caught by the officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mangalore, soon after he landed by Air India Express flight from Dubai at around 10 pm on June 3 night.
The gold was concealed in his shoes and the DRI officials intercepted him when he walked through green channel.
The gold, totally weighing 2466.60 grams, worth Rs 60 lac, was in the form of two bars and four pellets.
Hussainar was arrested and produced before the judge who remanded him in judicial custody.
As reported earlier, the customs officials at the airport, on the same night, thwarted smuggling attempt by a passenger who arrived by the same flight. The modus operandi in both the cases was the same, with gold being concealed in the shoes worn by the accused.
