Beltangady, Jul 10: In yet another tragedy at Netravati bathing ghat at Dharmasthala near here, a ten-year-old girl who had come on a pilgrimage along with her parents drowned on Sunday July 9.
Pallavi (10), daughter of Basavraj from Banaswara in Bangalore had come to Dharmasthala to visit the temple along with her parents. They had booked a lodge for their stay too. On Sunday morning, the entire family went to Netravati bathing ghat for bathing.
Ignoring the cautions that no one should take bath in the River Netravati when she is in her full flow in the monsoon season, the Basavraj family got down to take bath. After Basavraj had his bath, he was helping his daughter Pallavi for bathing.
However, she slipped from his hand and drowned in the swollen Netravti River. Even before she could be given a helping hand, she disappeared in the deep waters.
Despite all efforts her body was not yet traced. The current in the river has made it quite impossible to launch any operation to trace her. It is now expected that the body may surface some where along the Netravati bank either on Monday or following days.
Beltangady police have registered a case in this regard.
