Mangalore, Jul 10: Residents of Chandrahasnagar near here have reported about a breach in the MRPL pipeline on Sunday July 9 evening.
The sources said that a pipe supplying gas to MRPL, breached near the 'D' Gate of MRPL here on Sunday evening. As a result oil leakage was reported in the area. Water containing oily substance was seen in the area. It is said that similar substance has been seen in some of the drinking water wells of the area too.
While local farmers said that the leakage has reached even their fields, oil was seen splashed on the crops too. The eye witnesses said that leakage continued for more than half an hour, the impact of which was seen in a radius of about 2 kilometres.
Though the news has been confirmed by the officials, there are no more details available immediately. However, it is said that some immediate intervention by the concerned persons, has reduced the damage considerably.
