Mangalore, Jul 10: Cattle have been in the midst of controversy in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada for some time now. While some have taken a pledge to stop cattle slaughter, some others have been maintaining that it is not possible to stop cattle slaughter completely in the country.
Amidst all this, many private organizations have taken it on themselves to catch cattle runners and stop illegal slaughter of cattle. Despite their continuous efforts and vigil by the police, some persons are involved in illegal cattle running and slaughter.
In a similar case of illegal cattle running in the Urkipadav-Bollejar areas near Yedapadav here, the Bajpe police have now managed to nab to persons on Sunday June 9.
The police arrested Abdul Hakim of Karambar and Shameer alias Shammi of Virundadigudde, at Panjimogaru bus stand on Sunday for illegal cattle running. The police had earlier arrested 3 persons in this regard. They have already been remanded to judicial custody. With this, a total of 5 persons have been arrested in the case.
Both Abdul and Shammi had been absconding ever since the police started searching for them. Some organizations had even staged a protest on June 29 demanding the immediate arrest of Abdul and Shammi. The accused had also involved in cattle running cases at Kalasa, Kudremukh and other areas.
