Mangalore, Jul 7: Dakshina Kannada Bus Employees' Association and the Autorickshaw Owners' and Drivers' Association held protest demanding the repair of National Highway 17 which is filled with potholes on Thursday July 6 morning.
The members of the associations led by its president Ivan D'Souza blocked the playing of vehicles on the National Highway 17 at Baikampady. Addressing the protesters, Ivan D'Souza demanded the government to repair the road immediately. He criticized the concerned persons for neglecting the safety of public.
He also set a week's deadline at least to repair the road so that it could be used without problem. "This road records heavy traffic during the entire day. Being National Highway, this is needs to be in good condition for use. But it is not so. The state of this road is pathetic. It is almost impossible to see any part of the tarred road without a pothole. The light vehicles which are plying on this road are bound to get damaged. Moreover, owing to the bad state of the road, traffic jam has become a routine here owing to which labourers, students suffer a lot daily," he added.
The protesters warned that if the road is not repaired within one week, they would get to street and block the movement of all vehicles on the road.
