Mangalore, May 20: Acting on the decisions taken in the meeting chaired by health minister U T Khadar along with MLA J R Lobo, MCC commissioner Ajith Hegde, mayor Mahabala Maarla and the MCC officials recently with regard to controling the spread of diseases ahead of monsoons, three teams have been formed to carry out inspections in hotels, restaurants and roadside vendors, to maintain cleanliness and hygiene so as to control the spread of diseases like malaria.

Teams have been formed for Mangalore Central, Mangalore South and Suratkal. Accordingly, on Tuesday May 20, a team led by MCC health officer carried out a raid in various hotels and restaurants in the city.

The team comprising about six officials raided various hotels including Hotel Vrindavan, Hotel Sri Ganesh, Hotel Swagath, Jain Restaurant, Hotel Bombay Lucky and Hotel Aradhana. Among these hotels, the trade license of Hotel Vrindavan was seized for violation of norms. Jain Restaurant was found to have counters selling groceries inside, and officials urged the owner to maintain it either as a hotel or a grocery shop.

Notices were issued to almost all the hotels accept Hotel Swagath, but the officials directed the hotel management to install exhaust fans in the kitchen. The officials urged the hotel managements to follow the norms mentioned in the notice, failing which the hotels would be sealed within 10 days.

Health officer Manjayyya Shetty, environment engineer Madhu, health inspectors Ramu, Yashwanth, Sushanth and Nirmala were a part of the raid operation.

Good move by Minister U T Khader & MCC Officials. Please ensure you follow up these raids / inspections, so that hotels & restaurants maintain certain quality and hygiene.
I need to know if dept can give a contact number or email ID for us to contact and inform concerned,if grave violations happen and is noticed by few citizens at least.!!
raids once in few years is not going to serve any purpose, constant follow up in this regard is a must.!!

****Please check in Google and specially in gulf and Europe countries how Municipality Health Officers are doing routine check-up with Uniform wearing.
See the restaurants standard of quality.
There is no raid required if standards are followed and maintained from the day one of trade license issued.
All rules and regulations should be followed as per scheduled in license.
If Mangalore health officials are following routine check up today this day would not have come to raid like country require raid...****

Good move by the MCC! While inspecting hotels, restaurants, eateries and roadside vendors, please do have a look at logged gutters, leaking drainage pipes, stagnated water ponds and open dustbins which are breeding grounds for malaria and other diseases.

It is a good initiative by the City Corporation. But our forefathers have rightly said DEEPADA ADIYALLI KATHTHALU. Visit the markets and other buildings owned by the City Corporation as well as the dustbins around the city to get first hand experience as to how the City Corporation contributes to malaria, dengue, chikungunya,... It would have been a better contribution to public awareness if Daiji could have mentioned the Hotel names in front of the pictures.

Kitchen hygiene though do not contribute to the spread of Malaria, of course it does contribute to other diseases. A strict vigilance over stale food and kitchen hygiene is what the people expect.
Khader, all the best for these initiatives.

Very Good work. Thank you Mr. U.T Khader & Team for taking steps to maintain the hygiene in eatables. Since there is no arrangements for quality control in market, please instruct health,MCC & Excise officials to make a daily visit to hotels and vendors to maintain the quality in food and liquors. Hygiene at our home as well as hotels and surroundings play an important role in maintenance of our health. There should be a strict law to maintain the quality in eatables and drinks.

A warning to those people drinking your favorite cup of Hot Tea , Coffe in a plastic cups, Carrying Home parcel food from Hotels. The plastic bags used for packing food are very dangerous as they contain polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and other chemicals. Indian express published a newspaper Article on the Subject. As per the report published, the number of people suffering from kidney and throat ailments, cancer and infertility has been increasing in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. The rise in such cases is attributed largely to people eating hot foods carried in plastic bags. The hotel you visit may be otherwise clean but may provide parcel food in plastic bags and that too cheap recycled plastic. so friends please share this information with all your friends and relatives for a healthy disease free life.

Bravo, Health minister U T Khadar along with MLA J R Lobo, MCC commissioner Ajith Hegde, mayor Mahabala Maarla, for u r action. However, you should also accompanied with MESCOM personnels to verify the electrical installation. Photo 1~4 shows the poor, patheti electrical installation. MESCOM personnel should inspect the electrical installation periodically which can prevent fire hazard. Again stored gas LPG gas cylinders are next potential hazard.
