Beltangady, Jul 1: Damage in the monsoon season just does not seem to abate. A lightning that struck the house of one Seetaram Hebbar in Kanchimuger of Karambar village here on Thursday June 29 night has caused an estimated loss of Rs 5 lac.
The entire upper floor of the house was burnt down, wiping out 100 sacks of unprocessed arecanut, 10 sacks of skinned arecaut, 30 quintals of rice, one quintal of copper sulphate, some agricultural equipment and about 1000 tiles.
Miraculously, no casualties were reported. K T Kaveriappa, tahsildar, Purandar Hegde, revenue inspector, Sundar Salian, member, zilla panchayat and others visited the site on Friday June 30.
