Mangalore, Jun 28: In a startling disclosure, the Canara Bank officials said that the bank had been cheated by customers by giving counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 16,000 in the last 4 months.
The bank received 32 fake notes of Rs 500 face value in the last 4 months from its branches at Balmata, Bunder, Carstreet, Gandhinagar, Hoige Bazar, Dongarakeri, Baikampady, Hampankatte, Kuntikan, Puttur Market and Beltangady branch.
Though Puttur and Beltangady have been mentioned, the majority of the counterfeit currency was received from the city branches, said Canara Bank officials. This shows that counterfeit currency racket is very much prevalent in the city.
The Canara Bank officials have now filed a complaint with the Bunder police in this regard.
