Mangalore, Jun 26: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will launch the Konkani teaching programme in schools from Wednesday June 28.
This was announced by Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario at a press conference here on Monday June 26.
A day-long programme has been organized as a preparatory course to teachers who would be teaching Konkani in schools. The Konkani text book which has been designed by a panel of experts will be released on the occasion.
As planned earlier Konkani will be taught as an optional language in 52 schools in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Kasargod districts. A total of 1,200 students will be taught Konkani by teachers who have been trained for this.
Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore, R Colaco, a Bangalore-based businessman and Konkani artiste K Ramesh Kamat too will be present on the occasion. Eric Ozario will preside over the programme.
Konkani academy registrar Duggappa Kajekar, Konkani advisory committee members Dr Edward Nazareth and Pundalik Marathe were also present at the press conference.
