DUBAI, Jun 26:  - Some 70 passengers and the 12-member crew escaped unhurt as a Kish Airlines flight landed on the wrong side of Dubai International Airport on Sunday afternoon. The flight, 7106, from the Iranian city of Tabriz, landed on the new extension of the airport. Airport officials attributed the cause to human error.

In an official statement released by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), it was noted that the aircraft's landing gear suffered damage and the DIA’s fire brigade had attended to a suspected fuel leak immediately.

“The passengers were disembarked normally and taken to Terminal 2. Since the aircraft landed on the extension of a runway that is not in use, flights at the Airport were not affected due to the incident," the statement indicated.

The aircraft, an EP LBR, is being inspected by the General Civil Aviation Authority.

An official DCA spokesperson said that for the DCA, "the convenience and safety of passengers is paramount, and that the coordination and team work among the various departments of the airport have helped minimise the magnitude of the incident, further ensuring a smooth handling of the situation."
