Mangalore, May 3: A three-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Pumpwell here on Saturday May 3 morning.

The deceased, identified as Srinidhi (3), was the daughter of Lokesh and Veda Poojary from Hassan.

Spot where body was found

Veda, the mother of the child is employed as a warden of a hostel near Pumpwell, where she stayed with Srinidhi. Lokesh resides in Hassan.

It is said that on Friday May 2 night, Srinidhi was seen playing near the spot where a drain is being constructed. However, she later went missing.

Her anxious mother and other locals searched for Srinidhi but could not find her anywhere. Later in the night, a missing complaint was filed in the Mangalore rural police station.

On May 3 morning, Srinidhi's body was found in a drain some distance away from the spot she was playing at. Though at first it seemed that she might have fallen into the drain while playing, it is said that the two drains are not connected and the body would not have reached so far if she had fallen at the spot she was playing. Hence, her death has given rise to suspicions.

Mangalore rural police and corporator Asha D'Silva arrived at the spot.  MLA J R Lobo met the bereaved family and expressed condolence.

The body was taken for post-mortem. Further investigations are on.

very sad. but it alert us on the condition of the construction area. If you read the safety clauses which need to be taken care while such construction, it goes in huge number. So many safety measures to be taken care. but our construction areas, not even a single safety measures are taken care. So many open manholes, open drain, dangerous spots which are very much open for public to fall upon. It's the authorities which need to inspect all these and take actions if the constructors doesn't adhere to these safety measures. Unfortunately, all these remains in papers and in reality any disaster may hit upon any of us. pity on ourselves...
