Mangalore, Jun 23: Daily wage employees will organize a massive protest against the government urging it to regularise around 17,000 daily wage workers who have been rendering service for more than 10 years, said K S Sharma, founder president, Karnataka State Daily Wages Employees Federation, Hubli at a press meet here.
The indefinite strike will be held from Monday June 26 at Malleshwaram Grounds, Bangalore. More than 30,000 workers are expected to take part.
On May 25, the state chief secretary had passed a circular authorising the termination of the wage workers who were appointed way back in 1984 and who have not been regularised to this date. The state government has been saving around 50 crore per year by denying these workers facilities that are extended to regular workers, Sharma said.
The government has not made any recruitment in the last 15 years, leaving as many as 50,000 posts vacant. He urged the BJP and JDS parties to take necessary measures in this regard.
