Mangalore, Apr 28: Six Capuchin deacons were ordained on Monday April 28 evening by bishop of Mangalore diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza at the Divene Mercy Retreat ground of St Anne's Friary, Bejai.
The newly ordained priests are Fr Praveen Vincy D'souza (Sampige), Fr Anil Silvano Fernandes (Loretto), Fr Vijesh Loyed Menezes (Balehonnur), Fr Roshan Herald D'Souza (Baddyar), Fr Arun Fernandes (Taccode), and Fr Prashanth Noronha (Fajir).
Fr Naveen D'Souza, Capuchin took the lead in organizing the liturgy.
Bishop in his homily said that it is God himself who calls one to be the servant of his eucharist. "The first duty of the priest is to celebrate the eucharist for the forgiveness of his sins and the sins of the people," he said.
He also called upon the people in his thanksgiving speech to think of having a complete family and thus help the church by offering their offspring for the service of God.
Soon after the ceremony a brief felicitation programme was held for the new priests. The programme was compered by Fr Dominic Sunil Lobo, Capuchin.
Fr Dolphy Pais, the provincial of the Karnataka Capuchin province in his speech thanked all the parents for their sacrifice and said that God shall bless them abundantly.
About a hundred priests were on the altar witnessing this grace filled event.
