Udupi: Tulu short film 'Badk' released; focus on social issues

Udupi, Apr 26: "Tulu short film, ‘Badk’, summarizes the way in which life gets devastated if the youth get caught in the vicious circle of drinking and gambling. This film, which has depicted these things in a realistic way, has emerged as a creative film backed by social concerns. In my opinion, this maiden attempt from rural talents has become successful," said Fr Joswey Fernandes, priest of St Lawrence Church, Moodubelle.


He was speaking after inaugurating a function organized at the hall of St Lawrence PU College Moodubelle on Thursday April 24 for the release of the short film, ‘Badk’, as also exhibition of the film and interaction thereof. The film, produced by K K Productions Moodubelle, throws light on social evils and negative effects of superstitions in one’s life. 

Director of ‘Unicef-Prasar Bharti’ national award winning movie, Prakash Suvarna Katapadi, who released the short film, hailed it for exposing the tragedy of the youth, who stray from established values in pursuit of modernity, luxurious lifestyle and quick money, and thereby lose their unique identities. 

Principal of St Lawrence PU College Moodubelle, Fr Paul Sequeira, zilla panchayat member, Ida Gibba G’Souza, taluk panchayat former president, Devadas Hebbar, and Belle gram panchayat president, Rajendra Shetty, participated as chief guests. 

Cinematographer of the movie, Jason D’Souza Udupi, editor, Sandeep Udupi, assistant director, Geetha Naik, artistes, Savita Salian Karje, Ashok Moodubelle, Baby Everil Ria Alva, Neeta Suvarna Mangalore, Sanjeeva Suvarna Katapadi, Leeladhar Kamat, Herald Wilson Martis, Ivan D’Almeida, Sridhar Shettigar, Satish Kumar, Prashant Benal, Ravi Poojary Moodubelle, Karunakar Shetty Moodubelle, Sachchu, Moodubelle and Sharat Bailoor were present.

In the programme of film exhibition and interaction held thereafter, Pundalik Marathe, Jnanaganga PU College principal, V L Bhat, and A G D’Souza, participated. Producer of the movie, Anil Alva Moodubelle, welcomed. Director, Kalavaikhari Prabhakar Acharya, delivered introductory talk. Meera Lobo presented the programme. Artiste, Sridhar Shettigar, proposed vote of thanks.
