Mangalore, Jun 20: Twist and turns emerged in the controversial demolition move by Mangalore city corporation commissioner which put him knocking horns with the Mayor.
While on one hand the DK district Congress leaders have appreciated the Mayor's action of stopping the eviction of petty shops in Mangalore, the DK district unit of Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Ambedkar) has demanded an apology from the Mayor for his reported outburst against the commissioner.
In a press conference called by former Minister B Ramanath Rai here on Monday, Jun 19, Rai was seen taking advantage of the situation and putting the BJP councilors and district in-charge Minister in bad light for showing no concern towards people’s welfare. Lauding the move of the mayor, who stopped the eviction of petty shops, Rai said that eviction drive was a move directed by an MLA or a councilor and not the commissioner.
The Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Ambedkar) leaders have warned that they will launch an agitation if the Mayor fails to apologise was his rude behaviour.
With these developments the next move of the mayor is being watched carefully. Will the mayor to apologise to commissioner and satisfy the Dalit leaders or will he stand firm with the backing from his party leaders? Let’s wait and watch.
