Mangalore, Apr 9: “Konkani education has become fruitful due to the sacrifices of the Konkani teachers. It is our dream to see that every child learns Konkani as a third language,” said Roy Castelino, president of the Konkani Sahitya Academy.
Roy Castelino was speaking during the inauguration of the annual Konkani teacher’s conference.
He said, “However we have to work hard to achieve that goal. I will take forward the order of the government for the PUC, D Ed/B Ed and the work of teachers who teach Konkani from the academy. I seek your cooperation in the future too.”
The conference was organized by the Konkani Prachar Sanchalan jointly with the Konkani Academy and Mandd Sobhan in Eric Mathais hall at St Aloysius College, Mangalore on Tuesday April 8.
Irene L Sequeira, a Konkani teacher at Nantoor Padav St Joseph’s School was presented with the late Jessy Castelino memorial excellent Konkani teacher award on the occasion.
President of Mandd Sobhan Louis J Pinto, president of Konkani Association of Education Dr Mohan Pai and academy registrar Dr Devdas Pai were present on the dais and conveyed their best wishes to the teachers.
The president of the Konkani Prachar Sanchalan Stany Alvares welcomed the gathering and the secretary Anil D’Cunha proposed the vote of thanks.
The programme was compeered by Lullus Cutinha.
Rony Crasta conducted a quiz in the morning.
Andrew L D’ Cunha, an experienced Konkani poet spoke on the need and benefits of learning the language.
Dr Devdas Pai and Vittori Karkal prepared the education process for the next year. The Kalakul group presented a skit titled ‘Badlavan’ towards the end.
