Panaji, April 7 (TNN): Claiming to have made inroads in the two constituencies of Canacona and Benaulim which were considered to be with BJP, the campaign for Congress South Goa candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco received massive support in Margao and Quepem. While Congress's Quepem MLA Babu Kavlekar appealed to the people to stand united like they stood by him during the last election and give a huge margin to Lourenco, Congress Margao MLA Digambar Kamat carried out an exhaustive door-to-door campaign canvassing support for 'the best choice for South Goa'.
Lourenco said the Congress manifesto is tailor-made to take up issues of the people of Goa and not about fake promises. Lourenco echoed his stance that he will make sure Mopa airport is scrapped and while attacking the BJP for reiterating its resolve to have Mopa, he called on his voters to make this elections a referendum on Mopa and survival of secularism.
AAP call's BJP's, Cong's stand on Mopa dubious
Accusing the BJP and Congress party of having a dubious stand on the Mopa airport, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) South Goa's candidate appealed to the public to vote for the alternative, AAP, and help bring about systematic change in the country's political setup. She stressed that AAP is a party which will listen to the people and it is the people who will decide what is best for them rather than those sitting in assemblies and parliament. "This is the last chance and it is not about changing faces but about changing the system for corrupt free good governance," said Kerkar Swati who was a co-convenor of the Goan for Dabolim Only (GFDO) movement which is for scrapping Mopa, said that Lourenco is fooling the people of the state by promising to scrap Mopa if he is elected.
Cong won't get even 100 seats: Parrikar
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday predicted that Congress will not even cross the tally of 100 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, while stating that the NDA will secure over 300 votes and Narendra Modi will become the country's next prime minister. "It's certain that Modi will become the prime minister. But Goa needs to win both seats in order to strengthen the hands of the state government to derive more benefits from the Centre," Parrikar said.
