Mangalore, Apr 6: A day after actor turned politician Bhavya’s brief speech at the Rahul Gandhi rally at Nehru Maidan, she set out on a door-to-door campaign in Pandeshwar seeking votes for B Janardhana Poojary.
Bhavya, who came to Pandeshwar Mahalingeshwara Temple in the evening, offered puja prior to campaigning. She was accompanied by ward members and a few Congress leaders during her attempt to woo voters.
Addressing the press after the puja, she said, “I am in Mangalore now to campaign for the candidate here. Last week, I campaigned for the LS candidate of Udupi-Chikmagalur at Mudugere.”
She said that she joined the Congress party last week after she was inspired by the policies of the state government in Karnataka. “The state government has given rice at Rs 1 which helps the poor people. The party, since its birth, has been working for the betterment of poor people across the nation,” she said.
Recalling her childhood, Bhavya said that her father was a staunch follower of the Congress party and was impressed with its principles. She invoked the name of Indira Gandhi and said that she was a role model for all the women in the nation.
In response to a question about her political career, she said she had no plans of contesting elections. For anything to happen, the time should be ripe. “I did not know that I would join the Congress party, but it happened,” she added.
Bhavya asserted that she won’t change parties as was the case with cine stars across the nation. “I may lose or win; I will stick to the stand of continuing with the party,” she said.
She asked votes for Janardhan Poojary saying he was a candid and veteran politician.
