Mangalore, Apr 5: The district BJP unit on Saturday April 5 unveiled its manifesto, prior to the release of party’s national manifesto slated for April 7.
Highlighting the key promises scripted in the manifesto, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said the party would lay emphasis on the development of basic facilities of diverse sectors.
"During the tenure of Congress party the country has witnessed the worst economic slump and rupee volatility. Problems such as internal security, border security, infiltration has been proliferating," he said.
"Considering some of the important issues worrying the district, the party has consulted workers in framing the manifesto suitable for this region," he said.
Key Points in the Manifesto
The BJP promises stepping up work on three national highways that pass through the district. Railway line would be given a facelift, with installation of double track and introduction of electric trains to ply short distances from places like Mangalore. The manifesto also promises new railway routes with more trains for Mangalore-Arasikere-Bangalore route.
International airport would be given a facelift. BJP promises to get a full-fledged passport office established in the city to relieve the burden of the people. CRZ (Central Regulatory Zone) regulations would be relaxed to some extent as in other states like Kerala and Goa. Efforts would be made to make the district a Special Education Zone.
Agriculture and Horticulture
- 24x7 water supply to farmers.
- Support price to be extended for coconut and rubber growers.
- Support for organic farming and cattle breeding.
- Permanent solution for endosulfan problem so that it does not repeat.
- Special Economic Zone for agro sector.
Fisheries
- Satellite technology to be integrated in the fishing sector to ease the work of fishermen.
- Value addition for fish produces
- Special Economic Zone for fisheries.
- Upgradating of port to be considered seriously.
Sports and Culture
- Promotion of activities that would boost the cultural diversity of the region.
- More playgrounds to be established.
- Emphasis on building a playground of international standards.
Employment and Business
- Creation of more opportunities for eco-friendly projects in the district.
- Establishment of an international-level IT Park to make Mangalore a IT hub.
- Promotion of traditional businesses of locals
- More support to rice mills, oil mills, cashew mills and fish storage units.
