'Thenaliraman' based on fictional stories: Producer

Chennai, April 5 (IANS): The makers of forthcoming Tamil period-comedy "Thenaliraman" have clarified that the film is not based on the true story of Thenaliraman, but is based on fictional story inspired from the stories of the southern folk hero.

The makers have made the announcement after a few Telugu groups recently raised a voice against the film for portraying two of most popular historical characters - Thenaliraman and king Krishnadevaraya, in poor light.

"The film 'Thenaliraman' produced by us is an imaginary story conceived on the basis of Thenaliraman's moral stories. This film neither reflects the life history of Thenaliraman nor that of any person with whom Thenaliraman is associated with," read a statement from the production house AGS Entertainment.

"The story of the film is an imaginary one reflecting the lifestyle of people who lived in 15th century BC in the backdrop of present day happenings and events. All characters appearing in this film are fictitious," added the statement.

"Thenaliraman", directed by Yuvaraj Dhayalan, marks the comeback of actor Vadivelu,, who was banned from acting for three years for campaigning against DMDK party in 2011 election.

The film also features Meenakshi Dixit, Manobala and Radha Ravi in important roles.
