Kasargod, Apr 3: The town police station here on Wednesday April 2, arrested four more persons in connection with clicking the photograph of a person employed in the Gulf after forcibly disrobing him in the company of a woman in a lodge here a few days back. The gang had blackmailed him to hand over Rs 10 lac to them if he did not want the photo to go public.
The arrested persons are, B M Harshad (23) from Chala in the town, C H Munawar Suhail (21) from Vidyanagar Chala, Chala C M Abdul Rashid (22), and a 22-year-old small screen actress from Trissur. Four persons were already arrested earlier by the policemen in this case. A team led by circle inspector, T T Jacob, and sub-inspector, T Uttamdas, was involved with this operation. Prime accused D A Shamir is absconding.
It is learnt that Shamir, who was the brain behind this racket, had got acquainted with the television actress when she was participating in the shooting of a series in Ernakulam. He had succeeded in making her believe that he was thinking of producing a TV series, and was ready to offer her the role of the heroine. Shamir is said to have told the actress that shooting for the new series would be held in Dubai. The actress, while accepting the offer, told him that she did not possess a passport.
After telling her that a passport would be got done in her name from Mangalore, the actress was brought to Deli in Kasargod. On her arrival on March 22 by a train, the actress was led to a flat belonging to D A Shamir in Alampady. She reportedly confessed to the police that Shamir's friends Abdul Shahin, N A Sameer and Abdul Shahid sexually assaulted her in the flat.
She was then taken to a lodge in the city on March 25, where an NRI staying there was forced to remove his clothes, before his photograph was taken in the company of the girl. He was then told to bring Rs 10 lac, with the threat of exposing the said photograph in case of failure to pay up. The NRI approached the police, and four of the accused were arrested when they came to collect money from the NRI. Interrogation revealed that there were altogether 10 persons involved in the crime.
