Mangalore, Apr 2: The Mechanical Engineering Department of St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangalore inaugurated the Industry Interaction Cell (IIC) on March 25 in the Mechanical Engineering Seminar Hall at 11am.
Dr Sushil Chandra M, GM – HRD & CSR, was the chief guest for the function. Fr Joseph Lobo, director – SJEC, was the guest of honour. Dr Joseph Gonsalvis presided over the function. Dr Thirumaleshwar Bhat, HOD – Mechanical Engineering, and Binu KG, faculty coordinator of IIC, were also present.
Sushil Chandra M, in his keynote address, offered many inputs regarding possible activities that could be carried out by IIC to strengthen the Industry-Institute relationship. He stressed to need to find a mutually beneficial partnership through better interaction and cooperation.
He also highlighted the need for involving Industry in the syllabus revision process leading to more up-to-date and relevant courses being developed.
The need for interaction of faculty with industry personnel was also highlighted. He advised the cell to make use of the Companies Act 2013, which makes it mandatory for Industry to fund technology incubators in academic institutions as part of CSR. He concluded by suggesting the need of a finishing school for the students to groom them in general etiquettes, body language, and dressing.
The members of faculty and students were also present on this occasion.
